Albany Symphony Orchestra

Another fine Albany Symphony Orchestra season ends Saturday when David Alan Miller and company team up with David-Griggs Janower and Albany Pro Musica to perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.

We are on record as being in disagreement with just about everyone else in the musical world about the Ninth; we are not convinced that Beethoven’s magnum opus is the greatest piece of music since that first caveman banged two rocks together. However, we are also on record as saying that Miller and the ASO have performed the Ninth in a spectacular and moving fashion. And Albany Pro Musica are a heavenly choir.

Also on the bill is the premiere of Along the River of Stars, by Dorothy Chang (pictured).

Albany Symphony Orchestra will perform Saturday (May 17) at 7:30 PM at the Palace Theatre (19 Clinton Ave., Albany). Tickets are $23-$46. Today (Thursday, May 15), David Alan Miller will host a concert preview at 1 PM at the Albany Public Library (161 Washington Ave., Albany). For reservations and information, call 465-4663.
