Cohn
Back
in 1991, solo
artist Marc Cohn made a rather large dent on the collective
consciousness of music listeners with his self-titled debut
album. The release not only brought piano pop back to radio
listeners but contained a hit gospel gem, “Walking in
Memphis,” which helped catapult the album to the platinum
level and helped earn Cohn a Grammy for Best New Artist of
1991. Cohn followed up that feat with two more releases, in
1993 and 1998, which feature backing vocals from Rosanne Cash,
David Crosby, Graham Nash and Bonnie Raitt, among others.
Cohn will play a concert at the Egg (Empire State Plaza, Albany)
tomorrow (Friday, Oct. 17); opening the show will be guitarist
Shane Fontayne, who has played alongside, either live or on
recording, Steve Forbert, the Mamas and the Papas, Bruce Springsteen,
Bryan Adams, Paul Simon, Rod Stewart, Shania Twain and Cohn.
Tickets for the 8 PM show are $25 and can be purchased through
the Egg Box Office, 473-1845.
